What are antioxidants good for?

All the berries in this smoothie are full of antioxidants. But what are antioxidants good for and why do we need them? Here’s a quick breakdown.

We all have antioxidants and free radicals inside of our bodies. Yes, our body makes some antioxidants, but we must get some from the foods that we eat too to fight the free radicals.

We need antioxidants to reduce the effects of free radicals, in other words, they stop delay the damage to our cells and tissues.

what are free radicals? Free radicals can accumulate in the body due to oxidative stress caused by things like our diet and lifestyle. We want to combat these free radicals because they can cause cell damage which can lead to chronic disease.

Here are some things antioxidants can do for us!

  • They can help you live longer.
  • They help us to detox.
  • Slow down the aging process not just on the outside but inside too!
  • They reduce the risk of cancer.
  • Less risk of problems with the eyes.
  • Longer life span.
  • Supports dextoification.
  • Helps with youthful skin.

This mixed berry smoothie is made without banana

If you aren’t a smoothie fan you can make your smoothie without banana! I prefer a smoothie with no banana. I sweetened this smoothie with a little bit of maple syrup, but you can also use honey. If you are a banana fan you can use half of a banana in this recipe!
